Horsford Statement On Cliven Bundy's Comments
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) released the following statement in response to Cliven Bundy’s recent comments:
“Cliven Bundy's remarks are truly hateful. His despicable comments about 'the Negro' belong in the dustbin of history. He is not a man who represents the American West's way of life or the dignity of our hard-working Nevada ranchers. In reality, he is a lawbreaker who has been elevated to national folk hero by a conservative media that will jump at any opportunity to mold an anti-government zealot into a righteous crusader.
"I will continue to work with local stakeholders to discuss potential solutions to the problems that arose as a result of the clash between Cliven Bundy and the BLM. Today, I am traveling to Mesquite to meet with local officials to discuss how to move forward. Nevada's 4th congressional district is 52,000 square miles; it spans from the city of North Las Vegas to the ranches in Bunkerville and beyond. This district is a microcosm of our diverse country, and it is important to me to represent the broad range of voices of this new American community. It is beyond unfortunate, however, that from this diverse community a loud voice of intolerance has been given a megaphone. Those who loudly championed Cliven Bundy have an obligation to denounce him. Otherwise, they own his comments as well.”
