Congressman Horsford Joins Vice President Kamala Harris to Highlight Nevada’s Accelerating Economic Recovery
LAS VEGAS, NEV. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) joined Vice President Kamala Harris at the Carpenters International Training Center in Las Vegas to highlight the success of the American Rescue Plan in accelerating Nevada’s economic recovery from COVID-19. Vice President Harris’s visit to Las Vegas is part of the Biden administration’s nationwide “America’s Back Together” tour.
“Four months ago, Vice President Harris made Las Vegas the first stop on her “Help is Here” tour to highlight the relief coming to Nevada from the American Rescue Plan. Today, as our economy rebounds from the pandemic recession, we are thrilled to welcome her back,” said Congressman Steven Horsford. “Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, Nevada is leading the nation in GDP growth and building back better for every family. On the eve of Independence Day, Democrats are delivering for the people, and our nation is coming back together.”
Vice President Harris’s visit to Las Vegas comes as economic growth continues to accelerate in Nevada and across the nation.
On June 25, a report released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis identified Nevada as the top state for GDP growth during the first quarter of 2021, with growth driven by pandemic relief funding, rising employment in the hospitality sector, and federal unemployment aid.
In June, the United States exceeded expectations for job growth, with 850,000 jobs added to the economy. The hospitality and leisure sectors, which make up nearly 30 percent of jobs in the Las Vegas metropolitan area, continued their fifth straight month of growth.
