Congressman Steven Horsford Announces $17.1 Million Construction Contract for Nevada Department of Transportation

August 12, 2020

North Las Vegas, Nev. -- Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) announced a $17.1 million construction contract awarded to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to improve a 32-mile stretch of the U.S. Highway 95 in Nye County, Nevada.

"Investments in infrastructure are critical to our nation's economic growth and development," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "This substantial investment in Rural Nevada's community will increase travel and safety for commuters and improve their quality of life. It will also create economic opportunities by creating new jobs for Nevadans as we work to recover from the coronavirus pandemic. I will continue to fight for robust infrastructure investments that will transform our state and meet the needs of my constituents."

The construction project is planned to last six months and calls for placing new asphalt pavement and turn lanes, creating a new 2-mile-long northbound passing lane, widening freeway shoulders, and flattening side slopes for safer vehicle turnouts. The enhancements run along the U.S. Highway 95 between Mile Markers 72 and 104, or roughly from 12 miles north of Beatty to 4 miles south of the Nye/Esmeralda County line. This stretch of freeway averages roughly 8,400 vehicles daily, with 18 percent of traffic coming from heavy truck travel.
