Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04), a member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement in response to President Trump’s proposed FY 2020 Budget.
“I’ll use my voice as Nevada’s representative on the House Budget Committee to stop the President’s proposed assault on programs that maintain the health and safety of Nevada families,” said Congressman Horsford. “In addition to cutting essential funding for Medicaid, and Affordable Care Act programs that protect Nevadans with pre-existing conditions, this budget takes a knife to Nevada’s dollars for affordable housing and nutrition assistance. It also wastes more than $8.6 billion on an ineffective and unnecessary border wall.
“To add insult to injury, the President is proposing to waste more than $116 million on Yucca Mountain’s ongoing threat to the safety of Nevada families, and to our state’s $40 billion tourism industry. This budget is an unacceptable attack on Nevadans. I will continue working with our state’s Congressional delegation and the Budget Committee to pass a budget that protects the programs Silver State residents rely on.”
Congressman Horsford will participate in two hearings this week regarding the President’s budget.
On Tuesday, he will participate in the House Budget Committee hearing with Acting Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought.
On Thursday, he will participate in the House Ways & Means Committee hearing with Treasury Secretary Mnuchin.
