New liquid hydrogen production facility opens in North Las Vegas
NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KSNV) — A new liquid hydrogen production and logistics facility has officially opened its doors in North Las Vegas.
Air Liquide describes the facility as its largest in the world and would make Nevada a leader in hydrogen energy production.
Hydrogen from the facility will go to various customers, including those in the growing clean mobility market.
"Air Liquide has supported the clean mobility market on the west coast since its infancy and the North Las Vegas facility is a milestone in our decades-long leadership of the U.S. hydrogen market," Michael Graff, the chairman and CEO of American Air Liquide Holdings, said in a press release. "This facility is an illustration of our commitment, and ability, to usher sustainable markets into the future, while creating jobs and fostering economic growth in the present."
A spokesperson says the North Las Vegas facility will produce 30 tons of liquid hydrogen per day, enough for over 40,000 fuel cell vehicles in California.
The facility itself will be powered by fully renewable energy.
State and local officials, including Gov. Steve Sisolak, North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee and U.S. Rep. Steven Horsford, helped celebrate the opening Tuesday.
