Horsford Announces Over $3.5 Million to Combat Drug Trafficking and Support Addiction Recovery in Nevada

May 31, 2024

NORTH LAS VEGAS – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04), a member of the Democrats for Border Security Task Force, announced federal funding for Nevada to combat drug trafficking and address the opioid epidemic. The grants are focused on reinforcing law enforcement capabilities and assisting community-led initiatives to end this crisis.

“As a member of the Democrats for Border Security Task Force, I’m fully committed to ending the drug trafficking and tackling the opioid epidemic,” said Congressman Horsford. “Thanks to this $3.5 million investment, we’re supporting the Nevada HIDTA program and empowering the PACT Coalition, which will provide our law enforcement and community coalitions the resources they need to protect and heal our communities.”

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy has designated $3,453,000 to Nevada through the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Program. This initiative supports the efforts of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in high-risk drug trafficking regions, which includes Clark County. The program’s aim is to reduce drug trafficking and its associated crimes by fostering collaboration across various levels of law enforcement and focusing on significant drug trafficking threats in the community.

The PACT Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Communities in Las Vegas received a grant of $50,000 through the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) Local Drug Crises Program. The PACT Coalition works to actively prevent substance misuse in Southern Nevada through a community-based process. This funding will support their ongoing initiatives, which include educational outreach and the reduction of stigma associated with substance misuse.
