Congressman Horsford Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Award Congressional Gold Medal to Service Members Killed in August 26 Kabul Airport Attack

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04), alongside a bipartisan group of 158 legislators, introduced legislation to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 U.S. military service members killed in Afghanistan last week.

"The United States must never forget the bravery of the 13 heroes killed in Kabul last week," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "These young men and women sacrificed their lives to ensure the safety of U.S. citizens and the Afghan allies who fought by our side. They represent the best of us, and our nation grieves alongside their families and teammates."

The legislation will award the Congressional Gold Medal to Staff Sgt. Darin Taylor Hoover, Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, Sgt. Nicole Gee, Cpl. Hunter Lopez, Cpl. Daegan Page, Cpl. Humberto Sanchez, Lance Cpl. David Lee Espinoza, Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola, Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, Hospitalman Maxton Soviak and Staff Sgt. Ryan Knauss.
