Congressman Horsford Joins Colleagues on the House Budget Committee to Approve the Build Back Better Act

September 25, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) joined his Democratic colleagues on the House Budget Committee to debate and approve the Build Back Better Act, a roadmap to create good jobs, invest in working families, and build a fairer economy for all.

"Today, I was proud to join my Democratic colleagues on the House Budget Committee to advance historic investments in Nevada's working families, small businesses, and seniors through the Build Back Better Act," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "The Build Back Better Act would not just allow us to rebuild from the pandemic — it would create a more just and equitable society where all people have the opportunity to thrive. I'm glad to bring this important bill one step closer to passage."

During Committee debate, Congressman Horsford championed provisions in the Build Back Better Act that would lower taxes for families and small businesses. Later in the markup, he highlighted key provisions in the bill that would lower taxes for people making under $400,000 and spoke in opposition to a Republican amendment that would have blocked undocumented students from receiving federal education aid.

Background on today's markup:

Over the last several weeks, 13 committees in the House of Representatives have worked to draft provisions of the Build Back Better Act that fall under their jurisdiction. Earlier this month, Congressman Horsford joined his Democratic colleagues on the House Ways and Means Committee to advance key proposals in the Build Back Better Act that would extend the expanded Child Tax Credit, lower taxes for small businesses, reduce prescription drug costs, invest in universal paid leave, address the affordable housing crisis, and make progress on a wide range of other issues affecting the American people.

During today's House Budget Committee markup, members voted to combine all committee provisions of the Build Back Better Act into a single bill and report the bill to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
