Congressman Horsford Joins Nevada Environmental, Labor, and Justice Groups for Roundtable Discussion on Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill

August 16, 2021

Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) joined constituents and local leaders from the Nevada Conservation League, Chispa Nevada, Climate Action NV, Make It Work Nevada, IBEW Local 357, For Our Future, One APIA Nevada, Native Voters Alliance of Nevada, and CHR Inc. for a roundtable discussion on the benefits of the bipartisan infrastructure bill for Nevada's economy, environment, and families.

During the roundtable, Congressman Horsford highlighted how the bipartisan infrastructure bill's multi-billion dollar investments in Nevada would help the Silver State create good union jobs, expand clean energy, and advance environmental justice. In return, roundtable participants shared their hopes for how the bipartisan infrastructure bill could improve equitable workforce development and build a clean energy future.

"As the House of Representatives works to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill, building back better for Nevada is my top priority. This legislation presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to invest in our workers and the environment, and we must make sure that every community has a voice in our progress," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "During today's roundtable, I was glad to hear from constituents and local leaders about how Congress can make progress to support working families and stop climate change. I'm grateful to the Nevada Conservation League for hosting this discussion, and I look forward to ongoing discussions about jobs and justice throughout the Silver State."

"With record-breaking heat waves, devastating wildfires, air pollution, and drought sweeping across Nevada, it is clear we have no time to lose in taking climate action at the scale that science and justice require," said Nevada Conservation League Organizing Manager Andrew Sierra. "The bipartisan infrastructure package is Congress' chance to go bolder to make transformative investments that protect our communities from further climate devastation, rebuild our neighborhoods with resilient infrastructure, and restore our economy with good-paying clean energy jobs right here at home."

Estimated funding for Nevada in bipartisan infrastructure bill includes:

  • $2.5 billion over five years for federal-aid highway apportioned programs
