Congressman Horsford, Local Transit Leaders Hold Successful “Commuting With Your Congressman” Event at Bonneville Transit Center

LAS VEGAS, NEV. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford and local transit leaders held a "Commuting With Your Congressman" transportation event at Bonneville Transit Center to hear from local commuters and highlight the benefits of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for Nevada public transit. During the event, Congressman Horsford presented the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada with a check representing the $150 million that RTC will receive to improve transit and roadways through projects that support safety, equity, modernization, and climate action.
"Investments in public transit are investments in Nevada's future," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "Under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Nevada will receive $468 million to expand our public transit and connect Nevadans with new jobs and opportunities. This funding means fewer cars on the road, less pollution, and faster commute times — especially in the underserved communities that rely on public transit the most. During today's event, I was glad to hear from Southern Nevadans about their transit needs and talk about how expanding public transit will improve their lives."
"Thanks to the Biden Administration and Nevada's federal delegation, we have a bill that delivers significant investments for our state that will improve the quality of life of each and every Nevadan," said MJ Maynard, CEO of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada. "The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act provides certainty in transportation planning, with funding levels increased and authorized for five years, allowing us to better plan and build projects that make Southern Nevada a great place to live, work, and play."
"This infrastructure bill is incredibly important for building and maintaining Nevada's roads and bridges as well as investing in cutting-edge traffic safety and green systems that will save lives and put our state on a path to a clean, sustainable future," said Nevada Department of Transportation Director Kristina Swallow. "Thank you to Congressman Horsford for being a key advocate of this historic and necessary boost in infrastructure funding."
Congressman Horsford voted to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in November 2021. The law is expected to provide more than $4 billion in funding for Nevada, including $468 million over five years to improve public transportation options across the state. Currently, Nevadans who take public transportation spend an extra 133.9 percent of their time commuting and non-White households are twice as more likely to commute via public transportation. 5 percent of transit vehicles in Nevada are currently past useful life.
