Congressman Horsford Secures Nearly $1.7 Million for Health Centers Serving Nevada’s Fourth District
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NEV. — This week, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) announced his office secured nearly $1.7 million to expand health care infrastructure and improve care for underserved communities in Nevada's Fourth District. The funding, which comes from the American Rescue Plan, will be distributed to FirstMed Health and Wellness Center, Hope Christian Health Center, and the Southern Nevada Health District.
"Throughout the pandemic, health care heroes at Nevada's Federally Qualified Health Centers have worked hard to bring lifesaving care to communities with the most need," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "I'm glad to announce nearly $1.7 million in new funding from the American Rescue Plan is coming to Nevada to help FirstMed Health and Wellness, Hope Christian Health Center, and Southern Nevada Health District expand their important work. This funding will help Nevada rebuild a stronger health care system that leaves no one behind."
"As Southern Nevada works to recover from the pandemic, support from the American Rescue Plan has made it possible for FirstMed Health and Wellness to meet the needs of our 5,000 plus patients across the Valley," said Angela Quinn, CEO of FirstMed Health and Wellness. "With this new funding, we are looking forward to expanding our services to provide quality care to more Nevadans. Congressman Horsford has been a true partner in our efforts, and we are grateful for his dedication to his constituents, many of whom are our patients.
"At Hope Christian Health Center, we are beyond grateful to receive funds from the health center construction and capital improvements funding opportunity under the American Rescue Plan. These funds will enable us to continue to fulfill our mission to provide excellent, affordable healthcare to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. The needs of the communities we serve have greatly increased since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. With these funds, we are now able to increase the number of patients seen daily at both of our primary care offices by building additional exam rooms. We will also have the ability to hire more providers to assist our staff and to increase the number of community members served. We are thankful for the sponsors of this funding opportunity and are excited to begin renovations to expand upon our mission of providing quality, accessible healthcare to our community here in Las Vegas," said Steve Flores, CEO of Hope Christian Health Center.
"Since the Southern Nevada Community Health Center began operations in 2018, our mission has been to provide low-cost, high-quality health care to underserved populations within Clark County," said Dr. Fermin Leguen District Health Officer for the Southern Nevada Health District. "This funding will allow us to expand on this mission and create a behavioral health clinic in our main community health center, providing access to much-needed mental health services for our patients. We will also be offering community health center services at our East Las Vegas location, further expanding the reach of our services. We would like to thank Representative Horsford for his continued support of the Health District, public health issues, and efforts to ensure that more people have access to care."
