Congressman Horsford Welcomes Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to Southern Nevada to Announce Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Investments
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford welcomed U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for the launch of the I-15/Tropicana Interchange Construction Project and a tour of Carpenters International Training Center.
"This is the beginning of major infrastructure investments in Nevada," said Rep. Horsford. "This is not only about highway infrastructure. It's about broadband. It's about water. It's about public transit. I am proud to have helped deliver these investments through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Thanks to these historic investments, we are beginning to see a number of good-paying, union jobs created here in Nevada. I look forward to continue working with Secretary Buttigieg to improve public safety on our roads, bridges, and highways."
BACKGROUND:
The I-15/Tropicana Interchange Construction Project is funded with help from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Construction on the project is set to begin this year and finish in 2024. It is estimated to support 4,664 jobs.
Much of the training for those jobs will come from the Carpenters International Training Center in Las Vegas. The Center is run by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC), one of North America's largest building trades unions, with over 500,000 members. In Congress, Congressman Horsford is a founding member of the Congressional Labor Caucus, which helps advocate for workers and ensure their voices are front and center.
