Congressman Steven Horsford Advocates for Foster Youth During House Ways and Means Subcommittee Hearing

May 12, 2021

WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford joined the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Worker and Family Support to hold a hearing on making a difference for families and youth in foster care.

"Congress has long had a history of working together in a bipartisan manner to strengthen vulnerable families and reduce the need for foster care," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "Today's hearing was an opportunity to hear from experts about how Nevada can work to keep families safely together. I was glad to highlight the priorities of the Specialized Alternatives for Family and Youth (SAFY) of Las Vegas, which works to provide better outcomes for Nevada children. As the Ways and Means Committee continues our advocacy on this important issue, I will always work to ensure that children and families at risk of entering the foster system have the support they need."

Congressman Horsford is a supporter of bipartisan legislation that addresses some of the issues raised during today's hearing, including the Family First Prevention Services Act, the Family First Transition Act, and the Supporting Foster Youth through the Pandemic Act.
