Congressman Steven Horsford Announces $1.7 Million to Lower Energy Costs for Nevada Families
North Las Vegas, NV - Today, Congressman Steven Horsford announced that Nevada will receive an additional $1.7 million in federal funds to bring down heating and cooling costs for families. These investments, secured through last month's government funding legislation, will be used to slash Nevadans' energy bills, provide crisis assistance, and help weatherize homes. "As Nevadans face rising global energy prices, we must work to bring down costs and ensure that Nevada homes remain safe and comfortable," said Rep. Horsford. "Thanks to several bills that I voted for, including the American Rescue Plan and the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, federal energy assistance is coming to Nevada. These funds will bring down costs and help families across Nevada pay their energy bills. I remain focused on delivering for Nevadans by lowering costs across the board, growing paychecks, and creating good-paying jobs." This deeply needed funding is administered under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). These investments are especially critical for lower-income households and communities of color who continue to disproportionately feel the impacts of climate change and extreme weather. The funding announced today represents the fourth round of LIHEAP assistance over the past year. In total, $27 million in energy assistance has been won for Nevada households since last May.
