Congressman Steven Horsford Announces $4.3 Million in Funding for Nevada AmeriCorps Programs
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Steven Horsford has announced that Nevada will receive more than $4.3 million in funding from AmeriCorps to support the work of approximately 250 AmeriCorps members working in Nevada's Fourth District and throughout the state.
"The dedicated work of AmeriCorps members brings lasting benefits to the communities they serve," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "I'm thrilled to announce that more than $4.3 million has been awarded to support Nevada AmeriCorps programs, including the essential Partners of Prevention (POP) program, which addresses substance misuse in Nye County. This funding will strengthen our communities, provide new opportunities, and help us rebuild from the challenges of the past year."
AmeriCorps is a federal program that recruits Americans to serve their communities and address the country's greatest needs. Members typically commit to a 10- to 12-month term of service with schools, non-profits, public agencies, or faith and community-based organizations. For many partner organizations, support from an AmeriCorps member is equivalent to adding a full-time staff member at no extra cost.
The new AmeriCorps funding for Nevada includes:
- $201,599 in grant funding and $76,140 in educational award funding for the Partners in Prevention program run through Nye Communities Coalition.
- $481,918 in grant funding and $201,529 in educational award funding for the Truckee Meadows Park Foundation.
- $1,051,428 in grant funding and $440,071 in educational award funding for the Great Basin Institute.
Nevada Volunteers, the Nevada state service commission, will also receive $1,869,661 in formula funding, which will be awarded to Nevada organizations to support additional AmeriCorps members.
