Congressman Steven Horsford Announces More Than $1.5 Billion in Funding for Nevada Schools through American Rescue Plan

February 17, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford announced that Nevada is estimated to receive more than $1.5 billion in funding for child care and education across the state through the American Rescue Plan.

"This pandemic has forced our nation's students away from school buildings and into unprecedented distance learning situations. The funds allocated by this legislation will be vital to ensuring that the needs of this moment are met and that our children can return to a sense of normalcy," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "I have heard from state and local education leaders expressing the urgent need for more resources to respond to this pandemic. The American Rescue Plan will provide an estimated $362 million for child care support, $3.5 million for maintaining access to Head Start programs, $1.12 billion to give K-12 schools the funding they need to get children back to school safely, and $204 million for higher education throughout Nevada. These funds will help out schools safely reopen for in-person instruction and address the difficult, multi-year challenge of helping students make up for lost time in the classroom."

The American Rescue Plan also specifically provides funding for the seven county school districts within Nevada's 4th congressional district, including the below estimates:

  • $880,469,000 for the Clark County School District
  • $152,000 for the Esmeralda County School District
  • $850,000 for the Lincoln County School District
  • $12,274,000 for the Lyon County School District
  • $1,262,000 for the Mineral County School District
  • $10,714,000 for the Nye County School District
  • $1,477,000 for the White Pine County School District
