Congressman Steven Horsford Congratulates Nevada Educator and National Teacher of the Year Finalist Juliana Urtubey
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, Juliana Urtubey, the 2021 Nevada Teacher of the Year, and first Latinx Nevada Teacher of the Year since at least 1992, was announced as a finalist for the 2021 Council of Chief State School Officers National Teacher of the Year. Ms. Urtubey serves as an elementary education and special education instructor at Kermit R. Booker, Sr. Innovative Elementary School in the heart of Nevada's 4th congressional district. Congressman Steven Horsford released the following statement in response to the news:
"Congratulations to Ms. Urtubey and Booker Elementary School on this well-deserved selection as a finalist for National Teacher of the Year. This is a tremendous honor for her and the entire Las Vegas community." said Congressman Steven Horsford. "My son attended Booker Elementary, and I have seen the powerful impact of teachers like Ms. Urtubey first-hand. She represents the best of our education system, working closely with students in special education settings and striving to address critical issues of educational equity through the use of gardens and murals across the campus. I am incredibly proud of her work and I look forward to her bright future."
During his time in the Nevada State Senate, Congressman Horsford worked to pass legislation to help rebuild Booker Elementary as a key part of the Clark County School District.
