Congressman Steven Horsford Demands Accountability for President Trump’s Upcoming Budget

January 15, 2020

Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) spoke in the Budget Committee hearing, titled "Why Federal Investments Matter: Stability from Congress to State Capitals." Congressman Horsford used his allotted time to highlight the importance of federal investments for the financial stability of all Nevadans and spoke to the importance of federal investment to ameliorate the impact of a possible recession.

"It is important for those in government to remind the President of the good that federal investments bring to our states, its families and workers," Congressman Horsford, who served in the Nevada State Legislature during the 2008 Great Recession, said. "I remember all too well the difficulty of balancing a budget, while also trying to invest in our families and workers during the Great Recession. [During the recession], Nevada's economy was one of the worst in the nation. Our unemployment and home foreclosure rates were among the country's highest. For that reason, it is extremely important that we have budget certainty this year ahead of any future recessions. That includes certainty from the money we receive from the federal government."
