Congressman Steven Horsford Elected to Serve on Democratic Leadership Team

July 23, 2025

Lawmaker will Champion the Voices of America’s Emerging Leaders and Millions of Constituents

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) was elected by his peers today to serve as the Democratic Caucus Leadership Representative, a vital position that ensures the voices of lawmakers with five terms or less are actively included in the Caucus’ decision-making process.

In this capacity, Horsford will represent 127 Members of Congress who collectively speak on behalf of more than 95.2 million Americans—approximately one-quarter of the nation’s population.

“Members with five terms or less – myself included – bring unique needs and perspectives,” Rep. Horsford said.  “As the most demographically, generationally, and geographically diverse caucus in history, I’m honored to serve as our voice on the Democratic Leadership Team, and I’m committed to supporting every Member in their unique needs serving their constituents. This is about more than informing legislative strategy – it’s about empowering our Membership and allowing our diverse voices to rise.”

The Democratic Caucus Leadership Representative position was vacated by Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) upon his election to the House Oversight Committee.

Rep. Horsford first served in Congress from 2012 to 2014. He was re-elected by his community in 2018, and has represented Nevada’s 4th Congressional District ever since. Drawing on his leadership as a former Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and a prominent frontline member, Horsford announced his candidacy for the position on July 15, 2025.

Rep. Horsford’s Dear Colleague letter outlining his vision and priorities is available here.
