Congressman Steven Horsford Highlights Racial Equity, Fair Trade, and Lumber Prices in House Ways and Means Committee Hearing with Ambassador Katherine Tai

May 13, 2021

WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford joined his colleagues in the House Ways and Means Committee to hold a hearing with Ambassador Katherine Tai on the Biden administration's 2021 trade policy agenda.

"Today, Ambassador Tai presented a clear and inspiring articulation of the Biden administration's 20201 trade policy agenda. I am glad to see her continued commitment to equity and fairness in trade, and look forward to her collaborations with the Ways and Means Committee's Racial Equity Initiative to make shared progress on these goals," said Congressman Steven Horsford.

During the hearing, Congressman Horsford asked Ambassador Tai about key issues of importance for Nevada's Fourth District, including the rising cost of lumber as it relates to affordable housing, and enforcement of the fair labor practice provisions in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Congressman Horsford also asked Ambassador Tai about the use of global trade policy as a tool to advance racial equity within the United States and internationally. Ambassador Tai committed to working with the House Ways and Means Committee's Racial Equity Initiative, which Congressman Horsford co-leads, to advance these goals.
