Congressman Steven Horsford Join Roundtable with Nevada Small Business Owners

September 19, 2020

Las Vegas, Nev. -- Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) took part in a virtual roundtable hosted by Small Business for America's Future with Nevada small business owners to discuss the needs and concerns of small businesses and efforts at the federal level to provide assistance during the COVID-19 public health and economic crisis.

"This is an extremely challenging time for small businesses in Nevada and across the nation. As a previous small business owner, I understand how important they are to the success and sustainability of our future," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "To curtail the long-term damage to our economy brought by this pandemic, we must make strong, meaningful investments in our small businesses now. I will continue working to expand emergency assistance for our small businesses, not only to overcome this economic crisis, but to ensure they are in a strong financial position for years to come."

"We cannot let small businesses bear the economic brunt of this pandemic alone. The situation is getting dire and it's time for our leaders to act" said Small Business for America's Future Co-Chair Shaundell Newsome. "Our economic recovery will require a strong small business sector. It was small businesses—not big corporations—that led the country out of the Great Recession. Small businesses created nearlytwo-thirds of new jobs following the recession. With a long-term recovery plan dedicated to helping small businesses, they can lead the way out of the COVID-19 recession, too."

As a Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, Congressman Horsford supports several efforts to provide emergency financial assistance to small businesses. In March, he voted to pass the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economy Security (CARES) Act, which established the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and allocated $349 billion in Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL). He also voted in favor of the Small Business Transparency and Reporting for the Underbanked and Taxpayers at Home (TRUTH) Act to ensure funds are distributed to small businesses most in need and thePPP Flexibility Act to increase flexibility for loans.

Congressman Horsford voted to pass theHeroes Act, which strengthens PPP and ensures federal funding reaches underserved communities, nonprofits of all sizes and types, and responds flexibly to small businesses by providing $10 billion for COVID-19 emergency grants through the EIDL.
