Congressman Steven Horsford Joins Vice President Kamala Harris in North Las Vegas to Highlight Wins for Nevada in the American Rescue Plan

March 15, 2021

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford joined Vice President Kamala Harris at the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas to highlight how Democrats have delivered for Nevada with the American Rescue Plan.

"With the American Rescue Plan, help is here," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "Las Vegas was the first stop for Vice President Harris on the Help is Here tour because she and President Biden understand the devastating toll that COVID-19 has taken on our state. The American Rescue Plan delivers much-needed relief — including full subsidies for COBRA health insurance to help laid-off workers afford health care, billions for COVID-19 vaccines, direct survival checks to help struggling families, and an ambitious child tax credit expansion that will cut child poverty in half. With this historic relief package, we are finally on track to crush the coronavirus and rebuild our economy."

The American Rescue Plan includes several key legislative priorities that Congressman Horsford worked to secure, including 100% coverage of COBRA health insurance, extended federal unemployment aid for laid-off workers, and an expanded child tax credit that will be paid monthly. Additionally, the law will deliver more than $4.1 billion in funding to Nevada's state and local governments to keep essential workers on payroll, expand public health efforts, and support public services. It additionally includes more than $1 billion in funding for Nevada schools to help students return safely to in-person learning and address pandemic learning loss.

Today's event was held at the Culinary Training Academy of Las Vegas, which is operated as a partnership between the Culinary and Bartenders Unions and 29 properties on the Las Vegas Strip. Before his election to the House of Representatives, Congressman Horsford led the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas for more than a decade, helping to train thousands of Nevadans for good-paying jobs in the hospitality and service industries.
