Congressman Steven Horsford Names Winners of Congressional Art Competition from Nevada’s Fourth District
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NEV. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) announced the winners of the Congressional Art Competition from Nevada's Fourth District.
"Each year, the Congressional Art Competition allows students from Nevada's Fourth District to showcase their amazing artistic abilities," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "This year's submissions were an inspiring and diverse representation of our students, and Jasmine, Liliana, Caroline, Jared, and Crystal all deserve the recognition they earned. I look forward to displaying these pieces of art in my offices and seeing Jasmine's painting displayed in the halls of Congress. Congratulations to this year's winners!"
The results are as follows:
1st Place — Jasmine Chung, Advanced Technologies Academy
The first-place artwork will be displayed in the halls of the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C., and the winner will be flown to D.C. for an art exhibition featuring winners from across the country.

This year's Congressional Art Competition submissions were evaluated by a panel of three judges.
Chase McCurdy is a Las Vegas-based artist and teacher who specializes in photography and painting. He received his master's degree in fashion film and photography from Paris College of Art, and has worked as a music and fashion photographer in Los Angeles and Paris.
Candy Schneider was a visual arts educator and administrator in the Clark County schools for more than 30 years. She served three consecutive terms on the Nevada Arts Council and was Board Chair for five of her 12 years of membership. In 2007 she was awarded the Nevada Art Educator of the Year Award by the National Arts Education Association and in 2008 she was awarded the Governor's Arts Awards for Distinguished Service in the Arts. Today, she is Vice President of Education and Outreach for The Smith Center for the Performing Arts.
Linda Alterwitz is a visual artist whose artwork engages photography, collage and interactive installations. Her projects focus on the unseen rhythms of the human body and our relationship to the natural world. Alterwitz's creative practice has been informed by a thirteen-year exploration of scientific technologies that provide visualizations of our physical and cognitive states.
