Congressman Steven Horsford on the Anniversary of the 1 October Shooting

October 1, 2019

Las Vegas, Nev. -- Today, on the two year anniversary of the Route 91 Harvest Festival Shooting, Congressman Steven Horsford reflected on the tragedy and honored the 58 innocent people who were killed and hundreds more injured in Las Vegas at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival on October 1st, 2017.

"Two years following the darkness of 1 October, many of us are still grieving and are enduring the pain that no family, friend, spouse, or child should ever have to face. Gun violence has touched too many of our lives, both on that day two years ago and daily — in Nevada, someone is killed by gun violence every 19 hours," Congressman Horsford said.

"The most tragic part is that these deaths are preventable. My colleagues and I in the House of Representatives have done our jobs — we've voted for legislation that would prevent more lives being lost from senseless gun violence. It's time for Mitch McConnell and the Senate to do the same and pass important gun safety legislation because every day that passes, more American lives are at stake. I know there are Senators on both sides of the aisle with the courage to do the right thing and I implore them to do so before another evening goes down in infamy and more lives are lost, just like they were here two years ago."
