Congressman Steven Horsford Releases a Statement on the 19th Anniversary of the September 11 Attacks

September 11, 2020

Washington, D.C. -- On the 19th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) released the following statement.

A transcript of the video can be found below.

Nineteen years ago today, our nation was besieged in a gruesome act of terrorism that changed our country forever.

We lost nearly 3,000 Americans that day and several were left wounded.

We remember them all, their families, and the first responders and civilians who put their lives at risk to save others.

Yet, in the face of all this cruelty and hate, our nation quickly came together in compassion and kindness.

Across the country, Americans assisted in ways they could: through donating blood, making generous contributions, or providing comfort to those suffering tremendous loss of a loved one.

It was this moment that truly defined the American people.

The renewed commitment to strength, hope, love, and resilience has bound us together in these preceding years and allowed us to trench forward and rebuild our nation.

While there are no words or deeds that will ever conciliate the pain and mourning that we experienced on this day, we do what we can to remember and honor the sacrifices that were made.

Last year, I was proud to vote in favor of the Never Forget the Heroes Act to provide 9/11 heroes, survivors, and their families with the financial security and support they deserve.

Our federal government remains dedicated to opposing acts of extremism and terror here at home and abroad.

We keep the memories and sacrifices of those we have lost in our hearts.

And in their honor, we remind ourselves of our nation's fighting spirit -- that there is nothing that we cannot overcome, especially at this time, as our nation faces rising threats and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
