Congressman Steven Horsford Secures $6.9 Million in Funding for Westside Education & Training Center in Las Vegas

February 4, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford announced that his office has secured a $6,930,635 investment for the Westside Education and Training Center in the Historic Westside of Las Vegas, creating nearly 300 jobs for the community. Congressman Horsford released the following statement on this investment:

"Nevada's unique economy has suffered from devastating job loss over the last year, with many jobs disappearing forever. To get our economy back on track, we need to make major investments in job creation and training." said Congressman Steven Horsford. "I'm proud to have secured nearly seven million dollars to build the Westside Education and Training Center in Las Vegas, which will train Nevadans for good-paying jobs in new careers. This investment will directly create nearly 300 new jobs as the facility is built, and thousands more once it is completed. I am even more excited that these funds and this project will happen on the Historic Westside, where I was born and raised."

This investment from the Economic Development Administration will support the College of Southern Nevada and the City of Las Vegas with constructing the Westside Education and Training Center to function as a workforce education and training facility in Las Vegas, a designated Opportunity Zone. The project will include the construction of a 10,000 square foot building complete with an advanced manufacturing laboratory, welding laboratory, healthcare laboratory, classrooms, multi-purpose room, computer laboratory, and offices. Once completed, the project will help the region with recovery efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic, lead to higher pay employment opportunities, attract private investment, and advance economic resiliency throughout the region.

During the 116th Congress, Congressman Horsford fought for the passage of the CARES Act, which provided the Economic Development Administration with $1.5 billion for programs to help communities prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
