Congressman Steven Horsford Statement to Commemorate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

May 1, 2020

Las Vegas, Nev. – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04), a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), released the following statement commemorating the month of May as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month:

"Today marks the first day of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. We cannot share the history of the United States without mentioning the great contributions of our Asian American, Native Hawaii, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community and we must take time to celebrate. From the Chinese workers helping to build the first Transcontinental Railroad in the 1860s to Filipino farm workers organizing and leading labor movements in the 1960s to being on the frontlines of our current COVID-19 pandemic, AANHPIs have helped shape our country's story in so many ways.

I'm proud to represent a state with a flourishing Asian American community that has become our fastest growing population. As a Representative in the most diverse Congress in history, and an Associate Member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, I am dedicated to promoting, preserving, and protecting the culture and heritage of the AANHPI community.

This May, join me in celebrating the unique history of AANHPIs and the strength of our nation's diversity."
