Congressman Steven Horsford Votes to Pass Historic Immigration Reform Legislation

March 18, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford voted to pass the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021 and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act of 2021.

The American Dream and Promise Act would provide protections from deportation and a pathway to citizenship for up to 3.4 million immigrants, including DREAMers and those who have qualified for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status. The Farm Workforce Modernization Act would provide a pathway to lawful permanent residency for undocumented farmworkers, who make up a majority of our country's total farm workforce.

"Immigrants make America strong. As the son of an immigrant, I was deeply proud to vote for the American Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which will provide a pathway to permanent residency and citizenship for millions of hard-working immigrants who have made this country their home," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "Over the past year, countless immigrants have put their lives on the line as doctors, nurses, teachers, and farmworkers. For many, America is the only home they have ever known. They deserve an opportunity to contribute to their communities without fear of deportation."

In the 116th Congress, the House passed a similar version of the American Dream and Promise Act on a bipartisan vote.

The American Dream and Promise Act is supported by a wide range of organizations and companies, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, AFL-CIO, SEIU, ACLU, United We Dream, UnidosUS, Apple, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), United Farm Workers, America's Voice, Fwd.US, American Immigration Lawyers Association, Immigration Hub, National Immigration Law Center, National Immigration Forum, TPS Alliance, Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, Lutheran Immigration Refugee Service, UndocuBlack Network, NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice, Bipartisan Policy Center Action, Center for American Progress, American Federation of Teachers, National Association of Social Workers, First Focus Campaign for Children, Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), National Council of Jewish Women Service, Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA), and Service Employees International Union.

The Farm Workforce Modernization Act is supported by United Farmworkers, Western Growers, Farmworker Justice, National Association of Counties, National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, United Fresh Produce Produce Association, U.S. Apple Association, National Milk Producers Federation, and 253 agriculture industry groups.
