Horsford Ahead of State of the Union: Nevada Families Deserve Better Than Broken Promises
February 24, 2026
WASHINGTON D.C- Ahead of President Trump’s State of the Union address, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) released the following statement on the urgent need to address rising costs, housing affordability, and access to health care:
“Just one year after President Trump took office, working families in Nevada and across the country are feeling the consequences,” said Rep. Horsford. “Last year, the President promised to lower the cost of living. Instead, life has become more expensive. His illegal tariffs, coupled with his Big Ugly Law, cost the average Nevada family an estimated $2,070 a year. Moreover, businesses in the Silver State have paid $1.6 billion in tariffs since March 2025.”
“The first step is returning the money taken from Nevada families,” said Rep. Horsford. “President Trump’s illegal tariffs drove up the cost of groceries, construction materials, small business inventory, and everyday goods. The Supreme Court made clear those tariffs were not authorized under law, which is why I introduced the RELIEF Act to deliver automatic refunds within 90 days - no red tape, just getting working families and small businesses their money back.”
“While families struggle to afford groceries, rent, and health care, Republicans continue to work for their Epstein class donors and oligarchs, all while approving the biggest tax cuts for billionaires and billions for ICE to terrorize our communities without meaningful guardrails or accountability” Rep. Horsford concluded.
Congressman Horsford continues to fight to lower costs and strengthen Nevada’s economic security by:
- Introducing the RELIEF Act, legislation that would require IEPAA tariff refunds within 90 days of enactment.
- Leading the TIP Improvement Act to strengthen protections and wages for tipped workers.
- Securing millions of dollars in federal funding for Nevada community projects.
- Voting against harmful immigration funding proposals.
Congressman Horsford will continue working to lower costs, protect health care access, and fight for an economy that works for working families in Nevada and across the nation.
