May 25, 2026
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV- This Memorial Day, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) and House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Ranking Member Mark Takano (CA-39) came together in Nevada's fourth Congressional District to honor the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country.
Congressman Horsford attended a ceremony at Palm Downtown Mortuary and Cemetery, where he delivered remarks to veterans, families of veterans and service members, and community supporters. He was then joined by Rep. Takano at Woodlawn Cemetery, where the two lawmakers delivered remarks and participated in a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the fallen military men and women and reaffirm Congress' commitment to those who served.
"This Memorial Day, I was honored to stand alongside Ranking Member Takano as we paid our respects to the brave soldiers who gave everything for this nation," said Rep. Horsford. "Memorial Day is about more than acknowledgment. It is a solemn commitment and promise to the families left behind and to the veterans who continue to give themselves every day. I will never stop fighting in Congress to ensure our veterans receive the quality services and care they have earned and deserve."
Nevada's fourth Congressional District is home to Nellis Air Force Base, Creech Air Force Base, and Hawthorne Army Depot. Congressman Horsford is a tireless advocate for veterans, introducing legislation to protect and expand their benefits, health care, and dignity, including:
- The Social Security Emergency Inflation Relief Act to protect Social Security and Veterans Affairs beneficiaries from rising costs.
- The bipartisan Military Care Access, Reporting, and Evaluation (Military CARE) Act to modernize how TRICARE beneficiaries report and resolve health care access challenges.
- The Veterans Education and Transfer (VET) Extension Act to modernize the Post-9/11 GI Bill, giving veterans more time to complete their education and greater flexibility to transfer benefits to dependents.
- The Strengthening Transparent Reporting to Improve Veteran Equality (STRIVE) Act to strengthen VA oversight and ensure veterans' disability benefits are administered fairly and consistently.
- The Headstones for Honor Act to provide headstones and markers for those who supported the nation's defense but were historically barred from formal military service.
The visit continues Tuesday with a roundtable event, where Congressman Horsford and Ranking Member Takano will hear directly from Nevada veterans and their families about the challenges they are facing and the support they need.
