Horsford Applauds $5.5 Billion Funding Announcement to Boost Affordable Housing and Economic Growth
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) celebrated today’s announcement by Vice President Kamala Harris of $5.5 billion in new funding dedicated to improving affordable housing, which will bolster economic growth, build intergenerational wealth, and address homelessness across the country.
“Today we’re taking a great step forward in ensuring everyone has access to affordable housing and economic opportunities,” said Congressman Horsford. “This $5.5 billion investment is about providing stability, security, and the promise of a brighter future for families nationwide. I’m excited to join with the Vice President as we pave the way for a more prosperous America.”
These investments will be channeled through various programs of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), aimed at constructing and preserving housing, lowering housing costs, and supporting renters and homeowners. It underscores an ongoing commitment to reduce the housing shortage and focuses on community resilience to enhance the living conditions of over 1,200 communities nationwide.
Congressman Horsford joined Vice President Harris in Atlanta on April 29, 2024 for the kickoff of the White House’s Nationwide Economic Opportunity Tour, as well as Detroit for the second stop on Monday. Each stop of the tour is highlighting how the Biden-Harris Administration has delivered historic investments to support communities, including improving access to housing and making it more affordable to buy a home.
