Horsford Applauds President Biden’s Historic Clemency Action

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) praised President Biden’s announcement of the largest single-day grant of clemency in modern history.

“President Biden’s clemency actions are an important step toward restoring fairness and equity in our justice system, giving hope to families in Nevada and across the country,” said Congressman Horsford. “By granting second chances to those who have demonstrated their rehabilitation, this action will correct past injustices and strengthen our communities for the future. These commutations build on the success of the CARES Act, which I voted for to allow individuals to reintegrate safely into society during the pandemic. But even as we celebrate this progress, let’s remember that thousands of individuals remain trapped in outdated and unjust sentences that would be shorter under today’s laws. President Biden has the power to bring more families together and set a precedent for future administrations to follow. I urge him to continue reviewing petitions and take steps to urgently address these inequities.”

Congressman Horsford has long supported addressing systemic inequities in the justice system and creating opportunities for redemption and rehabilitation, including voting for the CARES Act to provide a pathway for individuals to reintegrate into their communities.
