Horsford Calls Out Trump’s Vegas Stop: “Fix What’s Broken Don’t Sell Workers a Betrayal”

April 16, 2026
WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s visiting Nevada’s 4th Congressional District to promote his failed “No Tax on Tips” policy:
“Don’t come to my district for a photo op come with a plan to pass something that actually lasts.” Said Rep Horsford. “Coming to Las Vegas to sell ‘No Tax on Tips’ as a win for workers is out of touch with reality with what people are actually going through. If the relief you are providing is not permanent and does not reach all workers, it is not a solution – it is a headline. If the president is serious about helping workers, then fix what’s broken.”
Horsford outlined a clear path forward: make relief permanent, ensure it reaches all workers, and address the full cost-of-living pressures facing families in Nevada.
“My message is simple: no complicated economics, just fairness,” Rep. Horsford continued. “Make it permanent. Make it real. Make it work for the people who actually do the work.”
Congressman Horsford pointed to his legislative agenda as the blueprint that delivers the solution built in partnership with workers and labor leaders, including Culinary Works Union Local 226:
  • TIP Improvement Act – makes tax relief on tips permanent, fixes the marriage penalty, ensures access through verified TINs, and puts guardrails in place so the benefit actually goes to workers
  • Overtime for All Workers Act – ensures left out workers get tax relief on overtime pay
  • FULL House Act – restores fairness in the tax code by allowing losses to be fully deducted against winnings
“In Nevada, we know who makes this economy work. It’s the people on the floor, in the kitchens, and serving every day.” Rep. Horsford concluded. “They don’t need a political stunt they need a full fix. Pass the TIPS Improvement Act, the Overtime for All Workers Act, and the FULL House Act. Deliver real relief.”
