Horsford Celebrates EPA Investment in Advancing Safe Drinking Water for Nevadans
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) applauded the announcement from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to invest $28,650,000 to help Nevada identify and replace lead service lines, preventing exposure to lead in drinking water. Lead can cause a range of severe health impacts, including irreversible harm to brain development in children. Today’s announcement, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and available through EPA’s successful Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, is another major step to advance this work and environmental justice.
“Today's announcement of $28+ million for lead pipe replacement in Nevada demonstrates our commitment to safeguarding the health of our communities,” said Congressman Horsford. “This funding will ensure that Nevadans across the state have access to safe, clean drinking water. I’m proud that we are taking steps to address infrastructure inequities that have burdened marginalized communities for far too long.”
Alongside the funding announced today, EPA also released information about this funding can be used to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water most effectively. Additionally, they developed new outreach documents to help water systems educate their customers on drinking water issues, health impacts of lead exposure, service line ownership, and how customers can support identifying potential lead service lines in their homes.
