Horsford Celebrates POTUS Designation of Avi Kwa Ame National Monument
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) issued the following statement following President Joe Biden’s designation of Avi Kwa Ame National Monument:
“The Avi Kwa Ame National Monument in southern Nevada encompasses over 500,000 acres of land significant to our Tribal nations. This designation creates the 4th national monument in the Silver State and will conserve and restore treasured outdoor spaces for Nevadans and visitors to enjoy for years. Avi Kwa Ame is among the most sacred places on Earth by the Mojave, Chemehuevi, Southern Paiute people, and many other Tribal nations. The area is home to many native species to the region, like desert bighorn sheep and Gila monsters, as well as Nevada’s largest Joshua tree and the surrounding ancient and intact forest. The national monument designation will be a boon for Nevada’s economy and protect this historic land for future generations. I will continue my efforts to protect and defend Nevada’s precious lands.”
