Horsford Cosponsors the Fair Housing for Disabled Veterans Act
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) cosponsored the Fair Housing for Disabled Veterans Act to support Nevada’s disabled veterans. This legislation would ensure that veterans’ disability and pension payments don’t count as income when determining eligibility for affordable housing programs, removing a significant barrier to safe and affordable housing.
“Our veterans have given so much for this country, and it’s our responsibility to make sure they aren’t left behind when it comes to affordable housing,” said Congressman Horsford. “This bill is about fairness and making sure that those who served aren’t penalized for the benefits they earned. I’m proud to stand with my colleagues to ensure that our disabled veterans have the support they need to thrive.”
The Fair Housing for Disabled Veterans Act removes an issue in current housing programs that disqualifies many disabled veterans from affordable housing because their service-related benefits push them over income limits. This bill would ensure disabled veterans can access these programs without sacrificing the stability those benefits are intended to provide. By removing the barrier, the legislation would take a step forward to combat veteran homelessness and support veterans as they transition to civilian life.
