NORTH LAS VEGAS – Yesterday, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) participated in a series of events across the district he represents, emphasizing fundamental freedoms, economic opportunity, and community safety as part of “Defending Our Freedoms” Week of Action.

“I had a productive and meaningful day meeting with diverse groups of people in our community,” said Congressman Horsford. “We discussed critical issues like the economic empowerment of foster youth, the benefits of clean energy, and the urgent need for comprehensive immigration reform. The conversations I have with constituents are vital for shaping policies that benefit Nevadans when I return to DC.”

Event Highlights:

Interview on Gun Violence Prevention:

Congressman Horsford began the morning with an appearance on KSNV NBC 3’s morning show "The Arc," discussing the recent Supreme Court decision on bump stocks and broader issues of gun violence prevention. He reiterated his commitment to advancing comprehensive gun safety measures, including the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and his own Break the Cycle of Violence Act, aimed at reducing gun violence and supporting affected communities.

Empowering Foster Youth Roundtable:

Later in the morning, Congressman Horsford joined a roundtable discussion with foster youth and community leaders at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The conversation focused on the challenges faced by foster youth in securing housing, employment, and financial stability as they transition out of the foster care system. The event highlighted ongoing efforts to support these young individuals through the iFoster Jobs Program, which provides job training and placement services to help them achieve financial independence and stability.

Energy Efficiency Home Visit:

In the afternoon, Congressman Horsford accompanied Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on a tour of a constituent’s home in Las Vegas undergoing an energy audit. The visit showcased the benefits of clean energy initiatives and the cost savings they bring to Nevadans. Congressman Horsford emphasized Nevada's leadership in clean energy and the significant investments made under President Biden’s clean energy plan, which aim to reduce pollution, create jobs, and lower energy costs for families.

Work Authorization Roundtable:

Congressman Horsford concluded the day with a roundtable at the Latin Chamber of Commerce, discussing the importance of expanding work authorization access for undocumented individuals married to U.S. citizens. Participants shared personal stories, highlighting the urgent need for fair and just immigration policies that benefit families and the economy.
