Horsford Expands “Congressman on the Job” Series Across Nevada, Spotlighting Workers from Grocery Stores to Public Service

March 31, 2026
NORTH LAS VEGAS – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) is expanding his “Congressman on the Job” series, a district-wide initiative to step directly into Nevada workplaces and experience firsthand the challenges facing workers, small businesses, and families across the Fourth District.
Rep Horsford’s office is releasing the first video in the series. LINK The “Congressman on the Job” series will regularly release new videos on the Congressman’s YouTube page and social media channels.
To kick off the “Congressman on the Job” series, Rep Horsford worked as a shelf stocker in North Las Vegas at Mario’s WestSide Market, a community grocery store serving local families since 1999. During his visit, Congressman Horsford worked alongside employees stocking shelves, organizing produce, and breaking down boxes while speaking with employees and owner Mario Berlanga about rising costs driven by tariff policies.
“Mario’s is a cornerstone of this community, but they’re feeling the real consequences of these tariffs,” said Rep. Horsford. “From supply costs to prices on everyday goods, these policies are making it harder for small businesses to survive and for families to afford basic necessities.”
Horsford will continue the series at local restaurants, bakeries, and bars, where he’ll step in to support staff during service and engage directly with workers about scheduling, wages, and the challenges the city’s hospitality industry is facing amidst declining visitation numbers. He’ll also talk about how rising ingredient costs and supply pressures are impacting small businesses trying to grow.
Ahead of the series starting, Horsford shadowed an AFSCME-represented state worker, gaining insight into how new work requirements for SNAP and TANF programs are affecting both frontline public employees and the families they serve.
Horsford has also worked at Three Square Food Bank, joining staff and volunteers as they sorted, packed, and distributed food to families in need, highlighting the growing demand for food assistance across Southern Nevada.
“When you spend time on the job with workers, you see firsthand how higher costs are creating real pressure, and families are doing everything they can to keep up,” Rep. Horsford said.
These firsthand experiences are informing Congressman Horsford’s legislative efforts, including his Restoring Economic Lifelines for Independent Enterprises and Family Businesses (RELIEF) Act, which would require U.S. Customs and Border Protection to automatically refund tariffs and customs duties collected under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) since January 1, 2025. The legislation is designed to deliver direct relief to small businesses and help lower costs for consumers.
“I’ve seen it myself, shelves cost more to stock, ingredients cost more to buy, food banks are serving more families, and workers are being asked to do more with less,” Rep. Horsford said. “These illegal tariffs were an assault on working families. This is my commitment to show up, listen, and fight to lower costs and raise wages.”
The first episode is live here. LINK
