Horsford Hosts Listening Sessions with Nevada Workers Amid Republican Government Shutdown

October 8, 2025
WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) hosted a series of meetings this week with local leaders from Nevada’s 4th Congressional District to address questions and concerns about the ongoing government shutdown and Republican-led cuts to healthcare.
Building on a series of roundtables Horsford recently held with Latino leaders, service providers, rural hospital administrators, minority women’s health advocates, and children’s health organizations, these listening sessions included representatives from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE).
“While I’m in Washington ready to work to end this shutdown, it’s important to me to hear directly from the people of Nevada’s Fourth Congressional District as they deal with the effects of Republican inaction. I’m demanding three simple things from Republicans to protect my constituents: cancel the health care cuts, lower everyday costs, and reopen the government,” Rep. Horsford said. “Health care is a right – not a privilege. The people I heard from are on the front lines of the Republican assault on care. I’m calling on Speaker Johnson and Congressional Republicans to reopen Congress, end their cuts to health care, and start meeting the needs of my constituents – and theirs.”
Congressman Horsford launched a microsite to answer questions and hear directly from constituents about how the shutdown is impacting them. The site also includes a legislation tracker that highlights the bills the Congressman is leading or co-sponsoring to support Nevada families during this time.
