Horsford Joins Leader Jeffries to Unveil Path Forward from Trump Presidency Debacle

Democrats Unite Around Plan to Empower American People Over Failing Authoritarian Presidency

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) today joined Leader Hakeem Jeffries as Democrats unified around his agenda to empower the American people against political and economic policies that have harmed communities and businesses across the country.

“One hundred days into this presidency, Americans are waking up to headlines that our economy shrank for the first time since the beginning of 2022,” Rep. Horsford said. “At that time, a global pandemic was to blame – this time, it’s Donald Trump.

“Nevadans can’t afford this president’s economic chaos,” Horsford continued. “We depend on tourism, which is buckling with consumer confidence at a 50-year low and international travel down 20 percent since Trump took office. Our businesses face increased operating costs as supplies as mundane as paper goods – menus, receipts, paper towels and toilet paper – are now pointlessly taxed by this president. Our housing market, which was already in crisis because Trump’s Wall Street backers buy up all the affordable housing, is now worse off as he taxes the materials we need to make more homes, like aluminum, lumber and steel.

“Against this backdrop of foolish economic policies and cruel cuts to Social Security and Medicaid, I was proud to join Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries this morning to unveil a path forward for the American people that Democrats will deliver,” Horsford added. “As Leader Jeffries made clear, this administration asks how best they can benefit billionaires – my colleagues and I are asking: How can we help you? How can we lower your costs? How can we give your kids the future they deserve? Nobody thinks the American Dream is about getting something for free, but we are committed to ensuring people who work hard and play by the rules can have a good playing job, an affordable home, high quality healthcare, education for their children, and an ability to retire with grace and dignity.”

Rep. Horsford has been an outspoken voice against Donald Trump’s unconstitutional overreach. On April 9, he demanded accountability from Trump’s Trade Representative Jamieson Greer as Trump spiked the stock market by pausing tariffs just hours after telling his followers “it was a good day to buy”.

Horsford then partnered with Ways and Means Oversight Ranking Member Terri Sewell to lead 131 Congressional Democrats to demand documents explaining the policy change and accounting for any stock sales or purchases by people who may have known in advance.

In light of the Trump Administration’s extensive efforts to operate outside of the rule of law, Rep. Horsford is launching a new website page to catalog his work to hold Trump and other high-ranking officials accountable to the law and to common sense.
