Horsford, Oversight Ranking Member Garcia Hear Directly from Nevada Families Impacted by ICE and CBP

NORTH LAS VEGAS – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) hosted House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Ranking Member Robert Garcia (CA-42) for an immigration roundtable in North Las Vegas, bringing community leaders and individuals directly impacted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to speak directly with the lawmaker responsible for holding those agencies accountable.

“ICE has acted recklessly and without oversight for far too long, costing the lives of four people who were killed by ICE agents, all while this Administration strips Temporary Protected Status (TPS) from families who have lived, worked, and raised their kids here for years, leaving them exposed to that same reckless enforcement.” Rep. Horsford stated. “That’s exactly why it mattered that Ranking Member Garcia was here to hear directly from community leaders and the people living through it. With a $75 billion slush fund now behind ICE and CBP and American lives on the line, Congress has a constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight because detention does not erase people's rights, and federal authority does not excuse abuse, secrecy, or misconduct."

Congressman Horsford has exercised his oversight authority at the ICE facility in Pahrump on more than one occasion, including a visit where he was initially denied access before returning to see conditions inside for himself. Together, Horsford and Ranking Member Garcia examined the impact of ICE's expanding footprint and the termination of TPS on one of the nation's most diverse congressional districts.
