Horsford Reappointed to Influential House Ways & Means Committee, Championing Key Issues for Nevada

September 10, 2024

Committee Drives Policy on Healthcare, Social Security, Medicare, Taxes, Trade, and Worker and Family Support

WASHINGTON—Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) has been reappointed to the prestigious House Ways & Means Committee, the oldest and only committee named in the U.S. Constitution. This critical committee shapes national policies on healthcare, Social Security, Medicare, tax fairness, and trade. Congressman Horsford’s reappointment underscores his leadership in crafting policies that directly benefit Nevada’s 4th Congressional District and working families across the country.

“I am deeply honored to continue serving on the House Ways & MeansCommittee, where I will keep fighting for Nevada’s working families on the most pressing economic issues—from securing Social Security and promoting tax fairness to ensuring access to quality healthcare,” said Congressman Horsford. “This committee is central to creating policies that lift up working families and strengthen our economy. For the people of Nevada’s 4th District, this meansadvocating for the expansion of the Child Tax Credit, homeownership incentives, ending subminimum wages and taxes on tips for service workers, and advancing renewable energy tax credits that create jobs and support small businesses.”

As a strong advocate for fair tax policies, Congressman Horsford will prioritize working families over corporate interests. He will use his position to protect the retirement security of the 143,642 Social Security beneficiaries in Nevada’s 4th District, most of whom rely on these benefits as their primary income source. Horsford remains committed to defending Medicare, ensuring that more than 140,000 Nevadans in the district who have paid into the system receive the healthcare they’ve earned. His commitment is clear: every family should have the opportunity to thrive.

This reappointment comes at a pivotal moment as Congress works to expand the Child Tax Credit, lower prescription drug prices, and ensure long-term stability for vital programs like Medicare and Social Security.

As part of his duties on the committee, Congressman Horsford has been appointed to both the Health and Social Security Subcommittees. On the Health Subcommittee, he will focus on protecting and expanding the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and Medicaid, while fighting to lower prescription drug prices and make healthcare more affordable for all Nevadans. In the Social Security Subcommittee, Horsford will work to safeguard the nation’s Social Security trust fund and stand against efforts to raise the retirement age or cut benefits.
