Horsford Rejects Partisan DHS Bill, Calls for Funding with Accountability
March 27, 2026
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) today voted against a partisan Republican Continuing Resolution for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and criticized House Republicans for blocking the bipartisan funding package passed by the U.S. Senate.
“Speaker Johnson and House Republicans continue to own this shutdown,” said Rep. Horsford. “They walked away from a bipartisan solution and followed President Trump over a cliff. Congress could have ended the shutdown tonight and ensured funding for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the U.S. Coast Guard. Instead, Republicans are holding travelers hostage and leaving public servants wondering when they will get paid.”
“House Democrats stand ready to fully fund the law-abiding components of DHS,” Rep. Horsford continued. “We have consistently supported funding TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard. At the same time, we have been clear about the oversight, transparency, and accountability measures needed to fund ICE and CBP. Even members of their own conference have raised concerns about ICE’s conduct, yet Speaker Johnson refuses to allow a vote on a bipartisan bill that addresses those concerns and keeps critical services running. The American people deserve better than their political games.”
Earlier today, the U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan proposal to fund DHS components including TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard. Congress could end the shutdown immediately, but House Republicans have refused to bring the bill to the floor.
