Horsford’s Bill to Support Families Affected by Parental Substance Abuse Sails through Ways & Means Committee
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) announced that his Regional Partnership Grants Reauthorization Act was approved by the House Ways and Means Committee in a 38-0 bipartisan vote and now makes its way to the House floor. The bill, included in the Protecting America’s Children by Strengthening Families Act, aims to reauthorize and strengthen support for families affected by parental substance abuse.
“The well-being of children in communities across the country depends on ensuring that families affected by substance abuse receive the support they need,” said Congressman Horsford. “The passage of my Regional Partnership Grants Reauthorization Act through the House Ways and Means Committee takes a step forward toward providing essential services and stability for vulnerable families. I’m committed to working for these families and ensuring we invest in programs that make a real difference.”
The Regional Partnership Grants Reauthorization Act would extend the successful Regional Partnership Grant Program for an additional five years. This program supports families affected by parental substance abuse and offers a range of services, including peer recovery coaching, family-centered services, and specialized support for fathers and pregnant women. Since its inception, the program has served over 41,000 children and 25,500 families across 40 states.
The inclusion of the legislation in the Protecting America’s Children by Strengthening Families Act underscores the importance of efforts to improve child welfare systems. Its passage through the Ways and Means Committee advances the effort to provide necessary resources to help families overcome challenges posed by substance abuse.
