Horsford's Statement on Federal Agent Shooting in Minneapolis
January 24, 2026
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) today condemned the killing of Mr. Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, who was fatally shot by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and called on the Department of Homeland Security to immediately cease all activities tied to Operation Metro Surge. He issued the following statement:
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Alex Jeffrey Pretti, killed today by federal law enforcement. This is now the third federal agent shooting in Minneapolis – and the second deadly incident this month. No community should have to live in constant fear. What we are seeing in real time is a failure of judgment, training, and leadership, and it must end. Public safety is not defined by force alone. It requires trust, transparency, and respect for civil liberties, and it must be grounded in the fundamental value of human life. That is why I am calling for a full, transparent investigation with state and local involvement: not a closed federal review conducted behind closed doors. Communities and families in Minnesota and across the country deserve answers. Accountability is not optional. Transparency is not negotiable. Protecting human life must always come first.”
Earlier this week, Congressman Horsford voted against the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2026, citing its lack of clear, enforceable guardrails to protect public safety and ensure accountability.
