Horsford Statement on Deal Reached to Release Hamas-held Hostages
NORTH LAS VEGAS - Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) released the following statement after news that the Israeli cabinet approved a deal to release hostages held by Hamas:
“I am encouraged by the recent development that an agreement has been reached to release hostages that have been held 45 days and to provide the needed pause to allow humanitarian aid to reach innocent civilians in Gaza.
"My thoughts remain with the hostages and their families, some of whom I’ve met with personally, who are victims of Hamas’ brutal attack as well as the innocent Palestinian civilians caught in the middle of the crossfire.
"I would like to commend President Biden for his leadership in helping broker this agreement and for being receptive to my and my colleagues’ calls for a humanitarian ceasefire and a return of hostages.
"We must now continue the work to assure all remaining hostages are returned home, that humanitarian aid is provided to innocent civilians, and that bi-partisan legislation is passed to provide support to Israel as they continue to defend themselves as a valued ally in the Middle East.
"I remain committed to work toward a future without terror, a future without Hamas. A future of peace in Israel and Palestine. The United States must continue to lead in charting out that future, and I look forward to working with the Biden Administration on this shared value in the days and weeks to come.”
