Horsford Statement on Speaker Johnson
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) issued the following statement after the election of Rep. Mike Johnson (LA-04) as Speaker of the House:
“While House Republicans have spent the last 22 days focused more on their own jobs and working to pick among the most extreme of their members a candidate for Speaker, I have remained focused on protecting the jobs of the people I represent in Nevada’s 4th Congressional District. I’ll continue to deliver on the issues that matter most for the people- affordable healthcare, childcare, and housing; protecting a woman’s freedom to make her own healthcare decisions; and defending Social Security and Medicare for current and future generations from attempts to privatize it, cut benefits, and make it harder to attain.
"These are the issues I will continue to work on in Congress while meeting the needs of veterans, workers and families who contact our office for constituent services and support. I can only hope that as Speaker, Rep. Johnson will put the extremism aside and allow the People’s House to get to work on keeping our government open and our families in Nevada and across the country safe, secure, and prosperous."
