Horsford Statement on Vote Against GOP’s Attack on Executive Authority
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) voted no on a bill that would undermine the executive authority of our current and future Presidents. It would also eliminate oversight and control of the flow of U.S. taxpayer-funded arms to our allies. The so-called “Israel Security Assistance Support Act” leverages funding cuts to critical departments like the State Department, Defense Department, and National Security Council to impose unnecessary and severe restrictions on a President’s constitutional prerogative and administrative flexibility in shaping U.S. foreign policy.
"The United States reaffirms its solidarity with both the people of Israel and the Palestinians in Gaza, advocating for a peaceful resolution that ensures the release of hostages, delivery of humanitarian aid to innocent civilians, and the promotion of peace.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu’s actions and strategy in Gaza, specifically military action in Rafah, is alarming. The level of response he is undertaking appears outsized to the level of threat, using bombs that can bring destruction to entire neighborhoods, harming and killing innocent civilians in Rafah and across Gaza.
"Regrettably, with this sham of a bill, instead of collaborating across party lines to advance shared principles, House Republicans have chosen political antics that could undermine our strongest ally and the only democracy in the Middle East. Our mutual objectives, rooted in core values, must prioritize ending violence, reconciliation, and advancing peace."
