Horsford: This is What Opposition to an Authoritarian President Looks Like

April 1, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) today spoke out as Democrats in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate blocked Republican efforts to further empower the Trump/Musk administration.

“This is what action against an authoritarian presidency looks like,” Rep. Horsford said. “Democrats shut the Trump/Musk agenda down in both chambers of Congress today.

“House Republicans had a busy plan for the week: Vote to undermine the federal judges who hold Trump accountable to the law, and vote to disenfranchise up to 21 million Americans without proof of citizenship,” Horsford continued. “Instead, Democrats blocked them before either bill came up for a vote, and Republicans cancelled the rest of the week to avoid another defeat.

“Across Capitol Hill, Senator Booker made history with the longest floor speech ever delivered, shutting senate action down for more than 24 hours,” Horsford added. “The previous record was a speech opposing the Civil Rights Act of 1957, which makes today’s milestone all the more poignant.

“Trump, Musk, and their Republican rubber stamps in Congress have shown Nevadans and every American what their agenda looks like – now they can get used to Democrats shutting that agenda down.”
