Nevada Congressman confronts HHS Secretary over broken promises, rising costs, and the real families paying the price

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) pressed Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during a House Ways and Means Committee hearing today, demanding answers on how the administration can promote a “Make America Healthy Again” agenda while advancing policies that cut critical health care programs.”
Horsford highlighted the reality facing Nevada families, who are facing rising costs, threats to Medicaid, and the looming expiration of Affordable Care Act tax credits – all made worse by the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
“President Trump and Congressional Republicans can try to rebrand the One Big Beautiful Bill but Nevadans are not buying it, because they are living it,” said Rep. Horsford. “At today’s hearing, Secretary Kennedy talked about ‘Making America Healthy Again,’ but cutting a trillion dollars from health care, driving up costs, and leaving families behind. When I asked basic questions about what families are dealing with, the cost of care, he did not have an answer. Tells you everything.”
Horsford emphasized that real health care reform must start with affordability and access not slogans.
“No complicated economics. Just fairness.” Rep. Horsford concluded. “If families can’t afford to see a doctor, fill in a prescription, or keep their coverage, then this system isn’t working and no amount of rebranding will change that.”
